KASB will offer a half-day morning session on “Reduction of Certified and Hourly Staff.” This session will begin with a discussion of the role of the board of education in determining whether a reduction in staff is needed and the practical steps needed to prevail if the teacher requests a due process hearing. The board has to reduce tenured staff based on Kansas case law and factors listed in the negotiated agreement. The rights of tenured and nontenured teachers will be reviewed along with the resolutions and notices that must be provided. Practical tips and the process to reduce hourly staff members will also be reviewed. There will also be a full-day seminar on “Reduction in Force” on March 3, 2010 at KASB.
