New Teachers and Mentors are encouraged to attend this one day orientation to help prepare for the upcoming school year. There will be a one-half day follow up in April. New Teachers will evaluate current skills, discuss classroom management and discipline techniques, review first days of school procedures and more. Mentors will meet to review tools and tips for observing and supporting new teachers. This group will meet again on April for a one-half day to review progress and establish goals for the next year. All activities are appropriate to fulfill the state mentoring grant (if applicable).
New Teacher Support Group
4:30 – 6:00, Locations TBD based on registrations
September 2, October 7, November 4, December 2
In conjunction with the August 3, New Teachers / Mentor workshop, new teachers may participate in a support group that meets monthly for the fall semester. We offer regional meetings to provide face-to-face contact with a service center consultant. Participants will cover basic information to help in the success of their first year and will be in an atmosphere where all questions and concerns can be addressed.
OPTIONAL CLASSROOM COACHING: For an additional fee, consultants will come to new teachers’ classrooms for assistance, modeling and coaching. Consultants will contact administrators about coaching options after the October support group meeting.
Mentor Support Meeting
December 3, 2009 (In conjunction with Mentor Training August 3)
9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Mentors need support too! In order to fulfill mentoring grants and to continue supporting new teachers, any mentor may meet with an SCKESC consultant to develop skills, learn new strategies and discuss mentoring pitfalls. This one day workshop is a follow-up from August 3, but would be appropriate for any classroom coach or instructional support personnel.
