Parents As Teachers

Parents are the first and most influential teachers from birth.

The Service Center at ClearWater sponsors the Parents as Teachers Program based on the nationally acclaimed “Born to Learn” curriculum from the National Center of Parents as Teachers. The program is designed to help parents of young children become informed and comfortable as their children’s first teachers.

The program is free to new parents in participating districts. Currently Andover, Bluestem, Circle, Clearwater, Conway Springs, Douglass and Remington are participating member districts.. New parents meet with parent-educators, trained and certified with the National Parents as Teachers Program, monthly. The program is offered to all parents (regardless of race, age, education, marital or economic status).

Children, pre-natal to three years, are helped through this program. Parent-educators help parents make the most of these years by providing practical information and guidance. Child development information about language, thinking, social and motor skills is available through the parent-educators, and developmental and health screenings are used for early detection of difficulties so that remediation can begin early.

Important aspects of the PAT Program are personalized home visits with certified Parent Educators, group meetings, play groups, regular developmental screenings in health, hearing and visual problems.
