Healthy Holiday Challenge

Don't forget- the Healthy Holiday Challenge starts next week!
You must be registered on the YMCA page to participate.

Questions? Email Kris: kmisak@sckesc.org

Dear Michelle,

Have a Healthy Holiday is our next wellness activity this year.  We hope this challenge will help you win the "battle of the bulge" over the holidays!

REGISTRATION INFORMATION
To participate in this challenge, log on to http://challenge.ymcawichita.org anytime beginning now through 5pm, Wednesday, November 23.  Complete the information - use SCKESC as the Company name and make sure you enter your email address.

You will receive an email from the Wellness Committee with the tracking sheet for your weekly weigh-in. This will be for your personal use only to help you keep on track.  At the end of the challenge you will go back online and record your final weight. This needs to be done by Friday, January 13th.

The YMCA will be maintaining all of the data and will keep that information confidential.  To receive credit for completing this challenge you must report your beginning and ending weight online with the YMCA.

We are looking forward to receiving the healthy holiday recipes, tips and reminders during the challenge! The Wellness Committee would like to wish all of you a Healthy & Happy Holiday season!

Sincerely,

The Wellness Committee

Do You Know Your Numbers?
Knowing your numbers is the first step in taking charge of your own health.

Why You Should Know Your: Blood Pressure
High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a serious medical condition that many people don’t know they have. It can lead to cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease and stroke.

Why You Should Know Your: Waist Size
A large waistline nearly doubles your risk of dying prematurely. Why? Belly fat sends a toxic stream of chemicals into your whole body.

Why You Should Know Your: Weight
Obesity can cause health problems such as cardiovascular disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gout, hypertension, high blood pressure and cancer.

Why You Should Know Your: Cholesterol Levels
High cholesterol is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Your HDL, the healthy cholesterol, needs to be 50 or better; your LDL, the unhealthy cholesterol, should be under 100.

Why You Should Know Your: Fasting Blood Sugar
Testing your fasting blood sugar (FBS) measures your risk for diabetes, a chronic disease that can lead to blindness, cardiac disease, kidney failure, nerve problems and an impaired immune system.
