Using Web 2.0 in the Classroom
In this course, find out how Web 2.0 technology can transform teaching and learning! Today, the next generation of websites gives power to the end-user, providing visitors with a new level of customization, interaction, and participation.
Many websites now allow users to upload, categorize, and share content easily. Weblogs and podcasts allow anyone to publish or broadcast on any topic. Wikis provide information that is constantly updated by the end-user. Open-source software is free and customizable. These new technologies are changing our relationship to the Internet.

Cybersafety: Keeping Kids Safe
Social networking, texting, online games...how can you keep up with all of the newest technologies that your kids use on a daily basis? You want your kids to enjoy all the benefits a technological society has to offer, but you also want to ensure their safety and responsible use. Participants will look at the newest technologies and discuss the advantages and risks of each.

How to Effectively Evaluate Web Resources
When doing research on the web, it is crucial that you evaluate the information you and your students find. The Internet offers information and data all over the world.
Because so much information is available, and because that information can appear to be fairly anonymous, it is necessary to develop skills to evaluate what you and your students find. Participants will look at authorship, publishing body, point of view, referral to other sources, verifiability, etc. to effectively evaluate web resources for their classrooms.

Creating Virtual Field Trips for the Classroom
Participants will learn to use Internet resources to design a “virtual field trip” for their students. Participants will become familiar with the strategies and resources that educators use to design these field trips, as well as tips and tricks to ensure their success.

Digital Storytelling: How to Use Photo Story 3
Photo Story is Microsoft’s answer to digital storytelling. Participants will learn to create a basic multimedia movie without having to learn advanced video editing. Photo Story provides the perfect alternative while still allowing you to use the basics of any video: images, titles, music and narration. (Photo Story 3 is only compatible with PC, so participants must have access to a PC to complete the course)
